In Memory of Guillermo “ Huevito “ Alvarez ( 1926 – 2005 )

A slicky fielding SS , who was born in August 14th of 1926 in Sand Adres Tuxtla , State of Veracruz Mexico broke into the Mexican League in 1946 wearing the Puebla Pericos uniform and becoming the rookie of the year by batting .306 in 52 games.
Since then he played for as long as 16 seasons with Puebla, Veracruz Aguilas , Yucatan and Monterey Sultans wher he hung up his uniform, as he did today in life, passing away in the city of Culiacan, where he made his home.

A soft handed short stop also a good contact hitter, had a lifetime BA of .270 in those days when lot of foreigner players come to Mexico to play from negroe leagues and major leagues as well, so playing regularly one has to have good skills to accomplish.

Made his debut under former big leaguer, manager Cuban Napoleon Reyes

A member of Mexican League HOF , inducted in 1976 because his fielding ability made him a gold glover for 9 record seasons, seven consecutive from 1950 – 56.

Also excelled in the old Liga de la Costa del Pacifico the MexPac Predecessor league playing only for his loving Culiacan Tomateros, where he finally paid tribute to mother earth.

He is member of the Culiacan All time star team.

Rest in peace this baseball great…….
