Taiwan Baseball News: Hurst Has Burlingame's Number; Yang Has Stellar Performance

The Brother Elephants tacked on seven runs, all earned, off First Securities Agan Benjamin Burlingame (2-1-0) before he knew what hit him and by that time it was too late as the Elephants cruised to a 9-4 victory before 7,148 fans at Tian Mu Stadium last night.
Elephants right fielder Cheng-ming Pang went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, two runs scored and a RBI while first baseman Fong-an Tsai finished the evening 1-for-2 with three runs plated and another driven in. Tsai also walked twice as Burlingame issued six free passes to go with eight hits.
Fellow American native Jonathan Hurst shut the Agan down as he allowed just one run, which was earned, on six hits and three walks in seven innings. Hurst (10-2-0) struck out six batters en route to picking up the win.
Agan designated hitter Chung-wei Pang had a 3-for-4 performance but had the lone run to show for it. His teammate, first baseman Hung-jeh Tsai, finished at 1-for-3 with two runs.

Chi-chia Yang pitched seven strong innings and designated hitter Chin-yi Cheng launched his eighth home run of the 2003 Chinese Professional Baseball League season as the Makoto Gida routed the China Trust Whales 9-1 in front of 1,453 onlookers at Shingchu Stadium last night.
Yang (5-5-0) surrendered one run, not earned, on three hits through seven innings. He walked two and fanned six. Jesus Pena mopped up with two innings of shutout ball, giving up just the two hits. Pena struck out one batter.
Gida right fielder Cheng-han Wu went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored while Cuban third baseman Osmani Estrada finished the evening 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and a RBI. Short stop Cheng-wei Kao went 2-for-5 but the big night came from DH Cheng as he finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and five RBIs on his eighth homer of the year. He was named the Game's MVP.
