Taiwan Baseball News: Chang Launches 19th as Burgos Struggles

By Andrew Wong

President Lions 4 Sinon Bulls 11

American native John Burgos surrendered three home runs en route to giving up six runs, all earned, on six hits in three innings to lose 11-4 to the Sinon Bulls before 2,253 fans at Taichung Stadium last night.

Among the three that the President Lions starter surrendered was one to all-star third baseman Tai-shan Chang of the Bulls. It was his 19th of the 2003 Chinese Professional Baseball League season. Chang's other hit was a double as he went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs.

The Bulls made it 11-0 in the bottom half of the fifth inning as they plated five unanswered runs. First baseman Shu-mu Chueh, batting in the leadoff spot (unusual for a first baseman), went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored while center fielder Jia-hao Chung finished the evening 1-for-2 with a run plated and another driven in. Short stop Jau-han Cheng hit a three-run home run, which was off Burgos (3-3-0), as he went 1-for-5.

The Lions scored four runs in the seventh and eighth innings but fell short of the comeback. All-star designated hitter Lien-hung Chen went 2-for-4 with a double while left fielder Hung-yuan Lin went 2-for-2 with a run scored.
