Makoto Gida 4 Sinon Bulls 2
In defeat, there is victory. The Makoto Gida doubled the Sinon Bulls 4-2 in front of 1,745 fans at Shingchu Stadium last night but the Bulls clinched the Chinese Professional Baseball League's first half title.
The Bulls managed to sweep the third-place President Lions last week and this aided their title run as the Gida spoiled the second-place China Trust Whales' title hopes with a three-game sweep. The Whales were projected to finish in first place but instead had to settle for second.
Last night, newly acquired Peter Moylan pitched a gem for the 21-24-2 Gida, who are looking to play spoilers right now. The Australian native surrendered two earned runs on eights hits in seven innings of work to pick up his first win in the CPBL. Moylan walked three and struck out three.
Newly acquired Cuban Osmani Estrada went 2-for-5 with a home run, his first in the CPBL, to lead the Gida. He had three RBIs and was named the Game's MVP. Center fielder Kao-chung Huang finished the evening 1-for-4 with a walk and one run scored while first baseman Jia-hsian Hsieh went 2-for-5 with a double and a RBI.
Estrada, playing at third base, chased Bulls starter Chi-shian Ho (2-5-0) with a long bomb as Ho gave up three runs, two of which were earned, on four hits through 4 1/3 innings. Ren-Ming Yang then came in and gave up an unearned run on three hits through three innings.
Third baseman Tai-shan Chang went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk to go along with one RBI for the 31-14-1 Bulls.
The Gida and Bulls will meet again at Shingchu Stadium tonight (6:35 p.m. Taiwan time).
CPBL NOTE: The Makoto Gida added Cuban native Osmani Estrada to the 25-man roster. Estrada is 174 cm tall, weighs 105 kg, hits right and throws right. He will wear No. 29.

First Securities Agan 5 Brother Elephants 9
Well, the downpour that the island of Taiwan experienced last week sure did ease fears about the country's water crisis. But the catch was it came at the expense of a few baseball games that had to be postponed.
Last night's game between the First Securites Agan and Brother Elephants was played to makeup the June 6 game that was postponed due to heavy rainfall and the Elephants won it before 1,286 onlookers at Shingcung Stadium, the venue where the original game would have been played.
Japanese native Hisanori Yokota scattered nine hits and gave up four runs, three earned, in seven innings to improve to 7-2-0 for the Elephants. He walked three and struck out six on 98 pitches, 57 of them for strikes. Ching-li Wang and Ruen-win Hsiao closed the ball game out for the winners.
Center fielder Chih-yuen Chen delivered the big the blow for the 24-20-1 Elephants as he went 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored. Right fielder Cheng-ming Pang finished the evening 1-for-3 with two walks and one run plated and another driven in while designated hitter Chin Jeh Lee went 1-for-2 with a walk and one run scored.
American native Greg Bicknell had another outing to forget as he surrendered four runs, all earned, on four hits for the 8-36-2 Agan in only 1 1/3 innings of pitching. Korean native Gyoung Yun Hee had to come in in long-relief and he gave up four runs, three earned, on four hits in 4 2/3 innings. He walked five and struck out only one.
