By Andrew Wong
Samsung Lions 11 Hyundai Unicorns 4
Left fielder Joon-hyuk Yang hit for the cycle as the Samsung Lions beat the Hyundai Unicorns 11-4 yesterday. It was the second time in his career that he hit for the cycle, the first being in 1996 against the same Unicorns. He finished 4-for-5 and now leads the Korea Baseball Organization in batting with a .452 average.
Ace Chang-yong Lim picked up the win, giving up three runs on seven hits in five innings to improve to 2-0 while the Unicorns' Sun-Dong Lim was tacked with the loss to fall to 0-1.
With the win, the Lions improved to 10-0-0 and are the only undefeated team in the KBO this season. The Unicorns fell to 4-5-1 and are six games back of the Leos.
Doosan Bears 10 Hanhwa Eagles 3
The Doosan Bears, backed by solid hitting, picked up their first win of the 2003 KBO season as they dumped the Hanhwa Eagles 10-3 yesterday. The win ended an eight-game losing streak to begin the season and a ten-game skid dating back to last year. The Lotte Giants are the only team not to have a win so far this season.
Bears' starter Kyung-pil Lee scattered eights hits and one run while fanning six in six innings to pick up the win to improve to 1-1.
Doosan is now 1-9-0 while the Eagles fell to 4-6-0 on the season.
LG Twins 2 Lotte Giants 0
The Lotte Giants fell to 0-10-0 and remained the only team without a win in the KBO after they were shutout 2-0 by the LG Twins yesterday in Seoul. The Twins improved to 5-4-1.
SK Wyverns 5 Kia Tigers 4
After winning eight games in a row, the Kia Tigers have lost two in a row. They fell 5-4 to the SK Wyverns yesterday in Kwanju.
Rookie Eun-bum Song pitched 2/3 innings to pick up the win and improved to 2-0.
The Wyverns are now three games back of the Lions for the first in the KBO and are at 7-3-0.
