BACK FROM THE BRINK

Almost beyond belief;
that close to coming to grief.
Gordon and Geary blew saves,
Rollins, Utley, and Coste made the big waves.
Fabio Castro the winning relief.

Wednesday, September 27, 2006. RFK Stadium, Washington, D.C.
Philadelphia – 8, Washington – 7. (14 innings).
WP – Condrey (2-2), save – F. Castro (1). LP – Bergmann (0-2).
HR – Zimmerman (20).
Utley (32).
It seemed like it would never end. Washington used 23 players
eight of them pitchers, Phillies used 24 players, nine of them
pitchers.

Fans in the stands yelled go for broke...
As Phils stumbled, fumbled and all...
Conine couldn't find his stroke...
But somehow we just wouldn't fall...

The Baseball Gods helped us up once more...
In our quest for fame and glory...
We watched and winced till out eyes were sore...
Will it be the same old story ?

Stay tuned the Gods aren't finished yet...
Looks like the hard way from where I sit
There'll be more agony, you bet
Like the commercial says We'll earn it !!!
