Japanese Baseball News: The Monday Report By Glenn Davies,Tokyo Japan

Central League News
CLFLAG (2k image)The Yomiuri Giants will be glad of the break after being swept in a 3 game series by the Seibu Lions in the first week of inter-league play. Giants reliever Takahiko Nomaguchi will have learnt the biggest lesson after smiling a bit too smugly at a strikeout in the game deciding bottom of the fourth as he then went on to give up game winning hits to the Seibu lineup. The Dragons went 3-3 against the Fighters and Eagles, Fukudome batting well in the last series coming up with his 10th HR of the year. The Tigers continued to struggle against Softbank and ace Igawa was rocked for 8 runs in 6 innings on Saturday. The Swallows have been the best so far in inter-league winning 5 of 6 including a sweep of the Lions. Yokohama and Hiroshima have continued to struggle, Yokohama being swept by the Marines and Hiroshima only coming up with 11 runs in their last 5 games.
Pacific League News
PLFLAG (2k image)The Lions lead over the Pacific league is down to half a game thanks to a 5 game losing streak that Seibu managed to pull out of this past week with a sweep of the Giants. Seibu pitching has been brutal, giving up 38 runs in the three game sweep by the Swallows. Seibu starters Ishii and Hoashi both gave up large leads of 5 or more runs early in their games. The Fighters have taken advantage and roared into second with 8 wins in their last 10 including 4th wins of the season for young Fighters starters Yagi(4-2) and Ejiri (4-2).The Hawks continue to be streaky with 2 good wins against Hanshin but 2 losses to cellar dwelling Hiroshima. Bobby V's Marines snapped a 5 game losing streak with a sweep of the Carp to edge above .500 and hopefully get back into contention. Orix have slid back by losing 4 of 5 and Rakuten continue to provide wins to the rest of the league.
