45TH CUBAN NATIONAL LEAGUE NEWS BY CUBANO

LAS TUNAS MAGICIANS BEAT INDUSTRIALES LIONS FOR THE FOURTH TIME IN AS MANY GAMES

During their first meeting, the Magicians sweet the Lions in Las Tunas. Under the leadership of manager Rolando Ponce, the Magicians have displayed a smart and cohesive game. This time at the Latinoamericano stadium, home of the Lions and host of the Baltimore Orioles vs Cuba game, the Magicians won 4 x 3. The Lions displayed a poor defense and three Lions runners were called out at home.
The winning pitcher was RHP Ubisney Bermúdez and the losing pitcher was Frank Menéndez in relief of lefty Maicel Diaz.
Las Tunas had 7 hits including a monster shot by Yordanis Alarcón in the fourth inning of starter Maicel Díaz.
Lions CF Carlos Tavares and team Cuba member had a hit in the first and has hit safety in 17 games.


GUANTÁNAMO INDIANS STOPPED ISLA DE LA JUVENTUD WINNING STREAK AT 4

Roberquis Videaux (4-3 with a HR, 2B and 5 RBI), Giorvis Duvergel (6-4) and Andrés de la Torres (5-4) combined for 11 of the 16 Indians hits to led Guantánamo its third consecutive win. The final score was 12x3 in which the Grapefruit Croppers skipper Armando Jhonson used 4 pitchers.
For the Croppers started Ronald Garcia and veteran RHP Gervasio Miguel followed. Both were charged 4 earned runs.


Righties Leyán Lores (2 ER 5 innings) and rookie Loavis Perán (4 innings) were the pitchers used by the Indians.


CIEGO DE ÁVILA TIGERS BEAT SANCTI SPIRITUS ROOSTER RHP YOVANI ARAGÓN

Ciego de Ávila Tigers had 9 hits and score 4 times against Yovani Aragon who pitched 8 innings in a loss cause. Tigers pitchers Alien Mora ( 3 ER in 6 innings) and Ismael Gonzalez ( 0 runs in 3 IP) combined forces to beat the Roosters 4 x 3.
Tigers best hitters were Yorelvis Charles (3-3, 2B), Yaibel Tamayo (4-2, HR), Yorbis Borroto (3-1), all three with one RBI a piece.

For the Roosters, team Cuba member Yulieski Gourriel had his 12 HR, Liván Monteagudo and Eriel Sánchez (4-3).

GRANMA SORRELS WON BY THE INTERNATIONAL MERCY RULE AGAINST THE MATANZAS COCODRILES

The Sorrels scored 12 times and veteran RHP Ciro S. Licea allowed 2 ER on 4 hits to beat the Cocodriles 12 x 2. Sorrels hitters had 15 hits including the 10th HR of Alfredo Despaigne.

Veterans Víctor Bejerano (3-2) and Carlos Barrabí (3-2) and Alfredo Despaigne had 7 RBI. The losing pitcher for the Cocodriles was Yosvani Fonseca.

LUIS BORROTO BEAT NORBERTO GONZALEZ

Villa Clara Orange Growers beat the Cinfuegos Shrimps in a pitchers duel 2 x 1. Luis Borroto won his league leading 7 wins streaking out 10 Shrimps hitters and allowing one run. Norberto Gonzalez was pitching a gem until the 8th innings when the Orange Growers scored 2 runs. Cuban team member SS Eduardo Paret (4-2) and highly touted prospect Dayan Viciedo (3-2) had hits off Gonzalez setting the stage for Cuban team member Catcher Ariel Pestano who drove both runs with a double.

HABANA COWBOYS YULIESKI GONZÁLEZ PITCHED A GEM AGAINST THE CAMAGUEY CERAMISTS

Cuban team member lefty Yunieski González allowed a run in 8 innings against the Ceramists and La Habana beat Camaguey 11 x 1. Cowboys hitters Luis I. González (4) and Danger Guerrero (3) had a HR and 3 RBI a piece.


A 13 HITS ATTACK HELPED PINAR DEL RIO BEAT THE CURRENT CHAMP SANTIAGO DE CUBA

The Pinar del Rio Cigar Makers had 5 batters with 2 hits and Donald Duarte hit a HR with 3 men on base to easily beat the Wasps in Pinar del Rio.
Wasps pitcher Alberto Bicet exited in the 6th after allowing 8 ER. The winning pitcher was Yuniesky Maya (1 ER in 6 and 2/3 with 8 SO and 4 Walks).

Raidel Hernández (2b and 2 RBI), Arturo Castro (4-2), Alexei Ramírez (4-2 with 2 doubles and 1 RBI), Jorge Padrón (4-2) and Yosvany Peraza (3-2) paced Pinar del Rio to its 20th win of the season.


IN OTHER BASEBALL NOTES:

THE EAST TEAMS HAVE DOMINATED THE INTER-LEAGUE GAMES SO FAR!

The teams from the east league have won 103 games versus 88 loses. There is only one more inter-league round left.

Groups B and C have the better combined record with 50/46 and 57/38.

The following teams are good enough to make a run at the leaders and subleaders:
Pinar del Río Cigar Makers, La Habana Cowboys, Sancti Spíritus Roosters, Ciego de Ávila Tigers Camagüey Ceramists, Cienfuegos Shrimps and Matanzas Cocodriles.
