Mazatlan We have a Dream! this what the Deer players have in mind, and puttting into action by defeating favorites Dominican team Cibao Eagles 7-1, with former Tampa Bay farmhand Pablo Ortega the winner of the championsip game against Mexicali, now tossed a solid performance in 8 innings work, allowing 5 hits and 1 run after a first inning triple by Rafael Furcal and a grounder to second by Luis Polonia, afterwards he seated in the drivers seat.

Ortega whos´picture is in the Cooperstown Hall of Fame for being the first Devil Rays pitcher throwing a ball when Tampa Bay inaugurated their spring training season as an expansion team, and now I bet Mazatlan fans will post another one in main street if Deers got he title.
For Cibao, starter Julian Tavatez lost the game in the opener, when he was knocked down with 3 runs, Trent Hubbard was hit by a pitch, then Miguel Flores who is blossoming in this series, doubled his first hits of 3 hi got tonight, followed by Vinny Castilla´s grounder to third base and Ronnie Belliard committed a throwing error to score one, and after consecutive K´s to Derrick White and Erubiel Durazo, Miguel Ojeda grounded to second and Rafael Furcal failed , his first of two costing errors, to score two more runs.
Vinny Castilla´s RBI singlr added on more in the 4th, and again Jonny Gomes hit another HR, his second in as many nights.
Tavarez went 4 innings, and Arnie Muñoz, Vladimir Nuñez (5),Jose Vargas came in relief.
For Mazatlan, LH Jorge Luis Garcia came in to close doors in the 9th.

Earlier in the opening game, Venezuela got their second win off Puerto Rico, who went down with a 0-2 record as well as Dominicans.
It was a long but emotional game, which ended 6-5 and DR had a chance to win it in the 8th and 9 inning when they let 5 men on scoring position against closer Franciso Butto who finally escaped from this threat and picked up the save.
Rookie, Twins farmhand in a two innings relief to Juan Carlos Castillo got the victory, and starter veteran Omar Olivares ,the loser for Mayaguez.
Red hot Venezuelan hitter, Rene Reyes had 3 hits with one round tripper included.

Today, in a battle on the top Venezuela will play Mexico, and DR will play Puerto Rico
