Carlos Fragoso

Against all odds, the fighting Mazatlan Deer beat favorites Culiacan Toamto Growers in one of the greatest and surprising comebacks in league history, 8-2 with star pitcher FRANCISCO CAMPOS, who received an invitation from Chicago White Sox for spring training, in the mound going 7 innings, and allowing HR by ADAN MUÑOZ and ADAN AMEZCUA for the only two runs he allowed.

Nobody will even try to wonder how this series will finalize, except by picking up Culiacan as the winners, beacuse their solid pitching, that includes names of the tale of JOSE SILVA, JORGE CAMPILLO,LUIS AYALA, SERGIO LIZARRAGA and other, his batting order with BENJI GI, KARIM GARCIA, RUBEN RIVERA, ADAN MUÑOZ, KIT PELLOW, all led by master manager PAQUIN ESTRADA the winningest manager in this country, but Dee team led by former great SS JJ PACHO, throw it all away, and turn it over to his team.

He made an aggresive decision in announcing pitcher Pablo Ortega to pitch the 6th game in Culiacan and with series in favor of host team, and made it, they won that important game.
I said this was an aggresive decision, considering that his best pitcher CAMPOS was redy then, and for them to get to the final game, needed to win the one before.

Now, they will travel to Mexicali to face the Eagles, starting series in Saturday.
Mexicali eliminated Loss Mochis in the early going, and becomes the third final series in a row to which manager TIM JOHNSON will participate in, and will see if this one is the lucky one for him, because he lost previous ones, while skipping the Obregon Yaquis.

It was all painful for Culiacan, who thought they will be playing for the championship, thus the rights to represent Mexican baseball into the upcoming Caribbean series, that are scheduled from Feb 1-6 in Mazatlan, now Deer are in this possibility.

Odds are in Mazatlan side because their better pitching staff, as they showed and tell to Culiacan, it is true that Mexicali´s bombers like BUBBA SMITH, JONNY GOMES,DERRICK WHITE and BILL SELBY, along with clutch hitters like SERGIO GASTELUM,CHRISTIAN PRESICHI are not easy out, however Mazatlan pitching its tough.

FERNANDO VALENZUELA, who pitched the clinching game against Los Mochis, has been performing up annd down, but this time had the best of his recent life.

The Toros de Tijuana (Tijauna Bulls) have signed an agreement with the new Golden Baseball League of California and Arizona.
Will Tijuana still be a part of the Mexican League for 2005? If not what team will replace them. Tijuana had the highest attendance 2004 in the Mexican League after moving from Laredo.
