AUGUST- 2004

Another losing month. And all kinds of reason why. Wagner and Madson out the whole month. Burrell goes down with a sore wrist. Randy Wolf finally admits he has been pitching with a sore elbow. Same thing for Todd Jones. Jim Thome has been two ticks late on fast balls down the middle. If it’s not sore hands it’s something worse – 33 years old and slowing down – for the season around .200 with men in scoring position. Lieberthal even worse - .138 the last I looked. Somebody has been keeping track of the bullpen failures – 26 blown leads from the sixth inning on. And with all that misery, this team enters September only seven games behind in the wild card race. Forget about the division – the Braves went 40-14 in July and August. So. Thirty games to play. Win 25 and we got a shot.
