Latin Baseball News: Marlins fireworks downed the Rocket in Mexico City Sky.. By Carlos Fragoso

Before an estimated attendance of 15,000 people , expecting to see a Rocket for the first time in Mexico City, come ou watchinG a wonderful fireworks show put up by the Marlins who knocked the Astros down by 6 to 1.

They scored one run in the first and third inning , taking advantage of 7 hits off Roger Clemens who took the loss, meanwhile, lefty Darren Oliver, tied the Astros with a solid I hit performance over 3 innings in the mound.

It was a wonderful time for Mexican fans to officially start the 2004 season of Mexican League baseball, by coming to see, the 2003 World series champions, and the Astros.

Miguel Cabrera ( 4-3 , with 2 doubles), Jeff Conine ( 2RBI Blast), Heep Cheop Choi and Ramon Castro also with a 2 RBI round trippers, helped the Marlins to take on the Astros, Jeff Kent, got another 4 bagger for the Astros only run in the 4th inning.

After Olivers good pitching performance, Marlins had thre more relief pitchers,Mike Neu, Baline Neal, Toby Borland, who combined for allowing 9 Astros hits scattered., also pitched for the Astros after Clemens, wereWade Miller, who performed very well, and Octavio Dotel who received Ramon Castro´s shot.

Mexico City elevation which stands 7200 ft above sea level, higher than Denver´s Coors Stadium contributes to have as many as 5 HR´s, since air is thinner, and base ball flies longer, so pitchers are in a high risk because their fastballs are not as fast as they want, and curves and change ups don´t break as they could.

As a result of this environment, last year, the Mets and Dodgers, combined for a 57 runs,74 hits and 14 Homers, in two games played

Anyway, it was a good time to start baseball taste in Mexico City…., series will continue Sunday at 1 PM , at Estadio FORO SOL.
