Taiwan Baseball News: Burgos Going the Other Way

American native John Burgos is starting to turn things around. After going 0-2 in his first two starts of the 2003 Chinese Professional Baseball League season, the Lions starter has now won two straight. Last night at Tainan Stadium before a crowd of 1,348, Burgos threw eight shutout innings, giving up just one hit, walking two and striking out eight to help his team to a 3-0 whitewashing of the hapless First Securities Agan. Burgos was named the Game's MVP.
The Lions scored a run each in the bottom half of the first, fifth and seventh innings off Agan starter Gabriel Ozura (0-4-0), who surrendered three earned runs in 6 2/3 innings. Nevertheless, he did pick up a quality start.
Leadoff man Kang-ling Huang went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI for the Lions while Japanese second baseman Hiroaki Yoshimi finished at 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs plated.
Closer Jung-yang Tsao pitched one scoreless inning to pick up his 13th save of the year for the Leos.
