Taiwan Baseball News: Osmani! From Island of Cuba To Island of Taiwan
By Andrew Wong
Makoto Gida 6 Sinon Bulls 7
From one island to another, Osmani Estrada has stepped off Cuba and stepped onto the shores of Taiwan. I have a feeling Taiwan must be better. The Chinese Professional Baseball League-leading Sinon Bulls were not going to let the pesky Makoto Gida spoil things again as the Bulls scored the winning run in their half of the eighth inning to beat the Gida 7-6 in front of 1,562 fans at Shingchu Stadium last night.
The Bulls scored six runs in the bottom half of the second inning off Gida starter Chi-chia Yang as slugger Tai-shan Chang went 2-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and a RBI. Designated hitter Chien-long Kao drove in a run as he finished the evening 1-for-5.
However, the Gida (21-25-2) would come back and they scored three runs off American starter Jeffrey Louis Andra in the top half of the sixth inning. Newly acquired third baseman Osmani Estrada had another big night as he went 3-for-5 with two runs plated and first baseman Jia-hsian Hsieh finished the night 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored. Designated hitter Chin-yi Cheng went had an RBI double, driving in two runs, as he went 1-for-4.
Reliever Wen-pin Hsu would eventually give up a run, which was earned, on three hits to pick up the win for the Bulls. Andra surrendered three runs, all earned, on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings and picked up the no-decision. He walked three and struck out three on 89 pitches, 54 of them for strikes. Closer Ramon Morel came on in the ninth to pitch one scoreless inning, giving up a lone hit before picking up his 12th save of the season as he enduced a double-play to erase the runners.
Yang gave up all six runs in only 1 2/3 innings in his start for the Gida. Ming-chin Lee went 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief before Shih-ching Tsai (5-5-0) gave up the game winning run.
