Taiwan Baseball News: Sun Shines On Bulls

Sinon Bulls 6 President Lions 3 (First game of double-header)
The rain finally cleared up yesterday and the Sinon Bulls and President Lions were able to throw in a double-header.
In the first game, Dominican native Osvaldo Martinez outdueled Lions phenom Wei-luen Pan as he pitched 5 1/3 innings and gave up three runs, two of which were earned, on six hits to lead his Bulls to a 6-3 win before 2,516 fans at Tainan Stadium.
Martinez walked three and struck out seven on 94 pitches, 57 of them for strikes, as he improved to 7-4-0 on the season.
Pan fell to 6-3-0 after getting off to a 6-0-0 start as he surrendered four runs, all earned, on eight base hits through 6 1/3 innings. He walked one and struck out two on 82 pitches, 55 of them for strikes.
Bulls closer Ramon Morel tossed a perfect 1 1/3 innings for his 11th save of the year.
The Bulls were aided by a 2-for-4 performance from team captain Chang-yi Huang at second base. He also walked once, coming around to score one of his three runs. Slugging third baseman Tai-shan Chang had two RBIs on a double as he finished the evening 1-for-3 while left fielder Song-yong Luo went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
Japanese native Hiroaki Yoshimi went 3-for-5 with one run plated for the Lions, who are now 8.5 games back of the Chinese Professional Baseball League-leading Sinon Bulls. First baseman Chuan-jia Wang finished at 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored while right fielder Lien-hung Chen went a plain 2-for-4. Left fielder Hung-yuan Lin had an RBI double and came around to score as he finished 1-for-4.

Sinon Bulls 5 President Lions 2 (Second game of double-header)
Even the Brother Elephants are ahead of the struggling President Lions in the CPBL standings as the Lions lost both games of a day and night double-header at Tainan Stadium. They lost the first game, 6-3, to the league-leading Sinon Bulls before dropping the second game by a score of 5-2 before 4,236 fans.
Second baseman Chang-yi Huang connected with his fourth home run of the 2003 season off Lions starter John Burgos as he finished 3-for-4 with one run scored, two doubles and a walk en route to being named the Game's MVP. That would set the tone for the 31-13-1 Bulls as third baseman Tai-shan Chang went 2-for-4 with a walk. Left fielder Song-yong Luo finished the evening 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.
Burgos scattered nine hits and four runs, all earned, in six innings to fall to 0-2-0 for the 23-22-2 Leos, who now trail the Bulls by 8.5 games. He walked two and struck out five batters on 115 pitches, 72 of them for strikes.
Chung-nan Tsai pitched 6 2/3 innings to win it for the Bulls. He gave up two earned runs, walked one and struck out four on 105 pitches, 65 of them for strikes. Tsai improved to 8-3-0. Reliever Wen-pin Hsu threw 2 1/3 innings to earn his first save after regular closer Ramon Morel worked the first game. Hsu gave up a hit, walked one and struck out two.

It seems nobody can dethrone the Bulls as the second-place China Trust Whales lost 3-2 last night to the Makoto Gida.
