First Securities Agan 9 Makoto Gida 9

The two worst teams in the Chinese Professional Baseball League showed their poor pitching as the First Securities Agan and Makoto Gida played to a 9-9 tie last evening before only 484 fans at Shingchu Stadium.

Gida first baseman Jia-hsian Hsieh hit a solo homerun, his eighth of the season, off American native and Agan starter Greg Bicknell, who gave up all nine runs in 6 2/3 innings, as he finished the night 1-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. Left fielder Chan-rong Chiou went 2-for-3, had a double and scored three times while third baseman Tsung-kwei Chang finished at 1-for-4 with two runs scored and two runs driven in. His only hit was a triple.

For the 8-31-2 Agan, first baseman Hung-jeh Tsai went 1-for-4 with a RBI double. He also came around to score.

At least not all was bad for the 15-24-2 Gida as American native Bobby Munoz went 1 2/3 scoreless innings, giving up just the lone hit while striking out one.

Agan pitcher Wen-hsiung Hsu was named the Game MVP as he struck out three batters with the bases loaded in 1 1/3 innings in relief.

The Agan and Gida will play again tonight at Shingcung Stadium (6:35 p.m. Taiwan time).

China Trust Whales 1 Sinon Bulls 8

The Sinon Bulls showed why they are the CPBL leaders as they demolished the China Trust Whales last night at Taichung Stadium in front of 3,810 onlookers 8-1.

American native Jeffrey Louis Andra shutdown the 24-14-4 Whales as he gave up just one earned run in seven solid innings of work. He scattered three hits, walked two and struck out five en route to improving to 8-0-0 on the year. He threw 103 pitches, 63 of them for strikes. Wen-pin Hsu finished things out with two scoreless innings. Hsu gave up two hits and struck out two.

Andra was aided by third baseman Tai-shan Chang's 2-for-4 effort as he scored run one and had two RBIs. The 28-11-1 Bulls, meanwhile, were aided by four Whales errors as they scored seven unearned runs.

Designated hitter Chi-fong Hung finished the evening 2-for-4 with a double for the losers while Dominican third baseman Juan Melo went 1-for-4 with one run plated.

With the loss, the Whales dropped 3.5 games back of the Bulls.
