Taiwan Baseball News: Jonathan Hurst Rides Elephant To Victory

Brother Elephants 6 President Lions 2
American native Jonathan Hurst rode the Brother Elephants' six runs en route to a 6-2 victory over the President Lions last night in front of 3,583 fans at Tainan Stadium.
Hurst scattered eight hits, gave up two earned runs, walked one and struck out three in eight solid innings as he improved to 5-2-0. He threw 118 pitches, 75 for strikes, as he was named the Game's MVP. Hurst's ERA also dropped to 3.02.
The 19-20-1 Elephants were up 6-0 before the 23-17-2 Lions got two runs off Hurst. Center fielder Kang-ling Huang went 2-for-4 with one RBI for the Leos. One of his hits was a double. Japanese short stop Hiroaki Yoshimi contributed with a 2-for-4 performance to go along with one RBI while designated hitter Lien-hung Chen also finished the evening 2-for-4. Hung-yuan Lin had a hit in a pinch-hit at-bat for Chen.
Closer Ruen-win Hsiao came on in the bottom half of the ninth inning to close out the game for the Elephants. Hsiao gave up just the lone hit.
Fellow American native Joe Davenport struggled for the Lions as he gave up five runs, all earned, on eight hits in 6 1/3 innings. He dropped to 8-3-0 and his ERA increased to 2.27. Then Po-chang Sheng threw to one batter, which he retired, before being relieved.
Short stop Rue-chang Chen had a big game for the winners as he went 1-for-2 and scored three times. He walked the other two at-bats and came around to score both times. Designated hitter Cheng-ming Pang did his part to drive Chen in as he had two RBIs to finish 2-for-3.
