Taiwan Baseball News: Bicknell and Agan Lose Heartbreaker

By Andrew Wong

First Securities Agan 2 China Trust Whales 4

American native Greg Bicknell pitched, by far, his best game as an Agan but First Securities committed a crucial error that led to three unearned runs by the China Trust Whales in the bottom half of the fifth inning as Bicknell and the Agan were doubled 4-2 before 1,774 onlookers at little used Jayi Stadium.

Bicknell went all the way with eight solid innings as he scattered four runs, one earned, on five hits. He threw 118 pitches, 69 of them for strikes. But his loss dropped him to 0-5-0 on the season.

For the 20-12-3 Whales, first baseman Tsung-hui Tung went 2-for-4 with one RBI while Dominican third baseman Juan Melo made his debut with a 1-for-3 performance and scored once while driving in another run.

Meanwhile, many teams are stocking up on foreign hitters compared to the usual barrage of foreign pitchers. The Agan are no different. Recently acquired Dominican native Manuel Kranlogs went 0-for-3 last night in a losing cause.

The Agan and Whales play again tonight at Jayi Stadium at 6:35 p.m. Taiwan time.
