Makoto Gida 4 First Securities Agan 5
The Makoto Gida tried to dig back from a 5-2 deficit but managed only two runs in the seventh inning and ended up losing 5-4 to the First Securities Agan in front of only 729 onlookers at Kaoshung Stadim last night. Nobody came out to watch two teams battle it out for last place in the Chinese Professional Baseball League.
Agan ace Rue-hao Liang surrendered six hits and four runs, two of them earned, in 6 2/3 innings to pick up the win to improve to 4-2-0. Wen-hsiung Hsu, who has struggled of late, came on in relief and gave up two hits in a scoreless 2 1/3 innings of work to pick up his first save of the season.
The Gida led 2-0 after the first frame as right fielder Cheng-han Wu went 3-for-4 with one run scored and three RBIs. He was my pick for Game MVP even though his team lost to fall to 12-21-0.
However, the Agan promptly came back to tie it 2-2 in the second as they jumped on American native Ken Henthorne of the Gida. Henthorne scattered eights hits and gave up five earned runs in 5 2/3 innings. Henthorne, in his second appearance for the Gida, fell to 0-1-0.
Dominican native Manuel Kranlogs went 0-for-1 in a pinch-hitting role for the 7-23-1 Agan.
The Gida and Agan will continue their series tonight (5:05 p.m. Taiwan time) at Kaoshung Stadium.
AGAN NOTE: The Agan have added pitcher Javier Samboy to the 25-man roster. The Dominican native is 185 cm tall and weighs 76 kg. He throws and hits left and has played in the CPBL before.
