Taiwan Baseball News: Elephants Triumph In Lopsided Affair

Brother Elephants 14 Sinon Bulls 4

Center fielder Chih-yuen Chen went 3-for-5 with a home run, scoring twice and driving in five RBIs last night as the Brother Elephants upended the Sinon Bulls 14-4 in front of 8,858 fans at Taichung Stadium. Chen was named the Game MVP as he hit his third home run of the 2003 Chinese Professional Baseball League season.

Also leading the charge for the 10-16-1 Elephants were short stop Rue-chang Chen, who finished 3-for-4 with four runs scored and one RBI, second baseman Shun-shian Fong, who went 2-for-6, and right fielder Cheng-ming Pang, who went 3-for-5 with one run.

Elephants' starter Hisanori Yokota improved to 4-2-0 with a solid six inning performance in which he gave up three runs, two of which were earned. Meanwhile, on the other side of the equation, Dominican native Osvaldo Martinez was roughed up for eight runs, seven earned, in only four frames of work for the Bulls. He dropped to 5-2-0.

Bulls' captain Chang-yi Huang was 3-for-5 last night while left fielder Song-yong Luo was 1-for-2 as the Bulls dropped to 17-8-0 and fell one game back of the idle President Lions for the CPBL lead.

First Securities Agan 3 China Trust Whales 3

1,205 fans witnessed a tie ball game last night as the First Securities Agan played to a 3-3 tie with the China Trust Whales.

Whales' center fielder Song-hsuen Yang hit his second homer of the season off Agan starter Greg Bicknell and that was his only hit of the game as he finished 1-for-4. Bicknell pitched six innings, giving up one run, which was earned.

Whales' starter Hiroaki Nakayama also pitched six solid innings, giving up just one earned run.

For those of you interested in foreign players, Agan short stop Rafael Osuna went 1-for-4.

The game was called after ten innings of play.
