Makoto Gida 1 Brother Elephants 0

Despite threats to the Makoto Gida's best players, the games must go on. Jonathan Hurst gave up one run, which was earned, but that was enough for him to be outdueled as the Makoto Gida shutout the Brother Elephants by a score of 1-0 yesterday before 6,486 fans at Kaoshung. Hurst fell to 1-1.

The game's only run came in the top half of the seventh inning as Gida designated hitter Chin-yi Cheng hit his fourth home run of the season off Hurst to give his team a 1-0 lead they would never relinquish. The Gida only managed four hits to the Elephants two, with Gida second baseman Yi-shian Lin going 1-for-3.

American native Ned Daley picked up his first save of the season for the Gida with a scoreless ninth.

The Gida improved to 8-14-0 while the Elephants, last season's champions, fell to 7-14-1. The two teams will continue their series tonight at Kaoshung (6:35 p.m. Taiwan time).
