Taiwan Baseball News: Gida Have Elephants' Number

Designated hitter Chin-yi Cheng hit a home run in a 2-for-5 performance last night before 1,624 fans in a 7-5 Makoto Gida win over the Brother Elephants, who continue to struggle. Cheng was named the Game MVP as he scored once and drove in four runs.
Gida starter Michael Marchesano pitched well but could not get out of the seventh inning as his team committed two errors that led to four unearned runs by the Elephants. That only made the score flattering as the Elephants fell to 6-13-1 on the season. Marchesano finished with 6 2/3 innings, giving up five runs, only one earned. Reliever Ming-chin Lee then came in and closed the seventh. He picked up the win to go to 2-3-0 with a flawless 1 1/3 innings. Australian Shayne Bennett picked up his second save of the 2003 Chinese Professional Baseball League season.
With the win, the Gida improved to 7-13-0 and are eight games back of the idle President Lions. The Elephants are 8.5 games back. The Gida and Elephants go again at it tonight at Shingcung in the only game in the CPBL. The Gida have swept all four games with the Elephants so far this season. Game time is 6:35 p.m. (Taiwan time).
