Korea Baseball News: You Can Race A KIA?
By Andy Wong
Samsung Lions 7 Doosan Bears 6
Seung-yeop Lee went 3-for-4, hitting two home runs and garnering six RBIs to single-handedly lead the Samsung Lions to a 7-6 win over the Doosan Bears yesterday at Taegu, South Korea.
Bears' starter Myung-hwan Park was victimized twice by Lee, who connected off the flamethrower in the first with a two-run bomb and in the third with yet another two-run homer.
The Bears rallied to tie the game 6-6 but Jae-chul Lim hit a game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth to win it for the Lions, who are 2-0-0 to start the 2003 season.
LG Twins 3, SK Wyverns 4
Travis Smith pitched 6 1/3 solid innings, giving up two runs, both earned, to pace the SK Wyverns to a 4-3 victory over the LG Twins yesterday at Chamsil.
Hyundai Unicorns 3, Lotte Giants 0
Maybe Min-tae Chong WILL get into double-digits this year - albeit in the Korea Baseball Organization. Chong tossed seven flawless innings to get the win as the Unicorns blanked the Giants 3-0 in Suwon yesterday. Chong is back from the Japanese leagues where he promised double-digit winning seasons but instead spent two years in the Yomiuri Giants minor league system.
Yong-joon Cho seems to always have an opportunity to pick up a save and he did it yesterday with a perfect ninth.
Kia Tigers 5, Hanhwa Eagles 1
You can race a Kia? At least on the baseball diamond you can.
Daniel Rios threw seven solid innings and Jong-beom Lee, fresh off a two-week spring training stint with the MLB Florida Marlins, showed his horsepower as he belted a solo home run to race the Kia Tigers past the Hanhwa Eagles 5-1 yesterday in Kwanju.
