Phillies Journal - 2006

by Max Blue

Jon Lieber pitched like warm spit,
just plain awful from the place where I sit.
On a hot day in Philly,
Josh (call me Walter)Johnson made team bats look silly,
and now it looks like our GM has quit.

July 31, 2006. Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Florida – 15, Philadelphia – 2.
WP – Johnson (9-5), LP – Lieber (4 – 8).
HR – Uggla (16), Hermida (5), Olivo (12, Cabrera (16)
Coste (3).
Utley singles in 6th – streak at 32.
After the game, General Manager Pat Gillick announces that the
Phillies are not rebuilding, they are retooling, and we should
wait until the year after next before they will be competitive.
I thought Ed Wade was bad, but at least he didn’t quit on a team
only five games back with 60 games to play.
