FELLED BY THE LONE COLOMBIAN

Phils lead with four outs to go,
but the Colombian flash said “no!”
Myers delivered an 0-2 meatball,
Braves shortstop unloaded on CF brick wall.
In the 10th the guy ended the show.

Who knew Renteria was Ruth?
Kicked Myers and Madsen in wisdom tooth.
Phils’ big guys stood down in the clutch,
more of this and we won’t achieve much;
too soon to face up to the truth.

April 2, 2007. Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, PA.
Atlanta – 5, Philadelphia – 3 (10 innings)

WP – Wickman (1-0) LP – Madsen (0-1)
HR – McCan (1), Renteria – 2 (2)
Rollins (1).

It could have been worse – look at last year:

OPENING DAY BLUES

Pulos and Rolen open with thunder,
Jon Lieber left to dig out from under
a 17-hit Cardinals’ thrashing,
or lashing, or smashing—how about bashing?
Too early to bring up “I wonder.”

April 3, 2006. The Bank, Philadelphia, PA.
St.Louis – 13, Philadelphia – 5.
WP- Carpenter (1-0) LP- Lieber (0-1)
HR- Pujols - 2 (2), Rolen (1) (grand slam, UGH).
Burrell (1), Howard (1).
Rollins doubles in last at bat- streak at 37.

Put out an APB on Renteria and let the police stop him from going to The Bank to make a big deposit in the Brave's account. Those power-hitting shortstops will do it to you every time. Let's hope Wednesday's game is much better for the home team.
