03/10/2007 Archived Entry: "A Sign of Things To Come"

As the new ball season sets upon us, why not try to take a look at the teams taking the field this year. This is not a full analysis, merely a overview of how the teams are looking, and how I feel they can contend. I think maybe it the certain scent of the springtime air... tough to get here in Buffalo mind you! But thats what has me in the mood for some predictions, if you will.

As far as I have been concerned in the past, judging my favorite team, or any team for that matter, on getting a good idea of where they stand can be summed up at looking at offense( not homers, I mean all), defense, pitching and depth. Yeah, a coach can have a strong influence on players and the games themselves, but not if he doesn't have the proper tools. So, when I say offense, I mean how well that team can put runners on the bases, and across the plate. Defense can go hand-in-hand with pitching, but I'm looking at the fielding ability of an infield, the arms and ranges of the outfield. Pitching mostly relies on starters, but bullpens and supporting casts are taken into consideration. Depth is simply the quality of players on the bench, their experience they bring, as well as that teams ability to handle an injury or two. Still interested? Based on these loosely tabulated numbers, meaning I have no idea how I arrived at these said digits, you may be able to concieve some type of power ranking that I may have in my head... and yes I will bring you this power ranking next time, which should really give you all something to chat about!
