SPORADIC YANKEE JOURNAL:
WITH APOLOGIES TO LYRICIST YIP
HARBURG AND THE WIZARD OF OZ:

DING DONG THE SOX IS DEAD,
WHICH OLD SOX?
THE FADING BOSTON RED SOX
DING DONG THE BOSTON RED SOX IS DEAD.
THE PAPERS SHOW A 7 1/2 GAME LEAD
THAT'S VERY GOOD INDEED.
SO SHOUT IT OUT FROM THE ROOFTOPS HIGH
AS YANKEE CLOUT HAS LEFT BOSTON WITH A MIGHTY SIGH.
AND YES, DING DONG THE SOX IS DEAD
AND NEW YORK HAS A PENNANT AHEAD.
