CONINE NO LONGER A BARBARIAN

Pat Gillick has picked up a winner.
A former barbarian sinner.
The guy used to kill us,
kick us, and drill us.
Jeff Conine—a Phillies win-spinner.

Flash back three years:

SEPTEMBER 2003 SONG

Six games to play.
What can I say?
In the end it has come down to this.
Will it be hit or will it be miss?
Will we play on an October day?
Facing a three-game series in Florida, trailing the Fish
by one game in the Wild-Card race.

LOSING IS BRUISING

Through six Kevin Millwood was cruising.
After seven the Phillies were losing.
The guy let us down in the clutch;
Jeff Conine again was too much.
Our hearts and our spirits are bruising.

Tuesday, September 23, 2003. Pro-player Stadium, Miami, Florida.
Florida Marlins – 5, Philadelphia – 4.
WP – Tejara (3-3), save – Urbina (4). LP – M. Williams (1-7).
HR – Conine (3)

The Phillies are scratchin...
To find an edge...
For wins to start hatchin...
And drive a wedge...
Tween the wild card 'tenders...
Will Moyer and Conine...
And other fence menders...
Put us out of the confines ?
