METS AVOID SWEEP – BLEEP

If you had baseball eyes you could see, before the page was turned,
if rookie Mathieson pitched to Beltran and Delgado in the fifth he would get burned.
Guess what? They each hit a bolt,
made our manager look like a dolt.
The guy’s old enough to have learned.

August 17, 2006. Citizens Bank Park. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
New York Mets – 7, Philadelphia – 2.
WP – Maine (3-3). LP – Mathieson (1-4).
HR – Delgado -2 (28), Beltran (34).
Howard (42).
It was announced as the largest crowd in Citizens Bank history -
45, 775 (seating capacity 43,647), but Liddy and me were there
sitting near a bunch of noisy Mets fans down the left field line,
and I can tell you there were an awful lot of empty seats. Also there
must have been 15 or 20,000 kids – there to run the bases after the game.
Ryan Howard slugged number 42 and missed two more by a couple of
feet. Phillies left nine on base.

On the way to the .500 hump...
No time to sit on our rump...
