Phillies Journal - 2006

ADIOS, VIEJO AMIGO

It had been talked about for days—Bobby Abreu to the
Yankees. Still it was a shock when it came. For nine years
A-brew had been nothing but good news for the Phillies—one 30
HR - 30 stolen base season; six straight years of 20 HR, 20 stolen
bases- only Barry Bonds and his dad, Bobby had ever done that.
Not yet August and he already has walked 90 times this year. Was it
his fault the Phillies never got to the playoffs all those years? We will
miss that little boy grin. Good by old friend. Adios viejo amigo, go up
there to the Big Apple and knock their socks off.

Oh, the Bronx Bombers also got Cory Lidle. Have the Phillies
thrown in the 2006 season towel?

The good news is that with Abreu gone Charley Manuel at long
last will bat Utley third and Howard fourth.

NEW TEAM SWEEPS

GAME ONE- WOLF RETURNS, LIEBY SLAMS

Randy Wolf has a new left arm,
programmed to do rivals harm.
Ryan Howard walked five times,
Utley rang 30-game hit streak chimes,
Mike Lieberthal back from the farm.

Lieberthal (2) Grand slam.

GAME TWO – BOMBS AWAY FOR MAD DOG

Phillies hit four for the Dog,
a six-run, 6th inning flog.
The Marlins were licked,
knocked down and kicked,
can this team emerge from the fog?

Winning two is always fun...
'specially when you reload the gun...
back to back sluggers, with bats set on stun...
Could chase would be wild carders of on the run...

Value for Abreu remains to be seen...
but four for two ain't a bad deal...
Sometimes trades seem cruel and mean...
and sometime they turn out to be a big steal...
