Phillies Journal - 2006

by Max Blue

May 9, 2006
Phillies and Mets begin 3-game series in Philadelphia. Mets lead NL East by 4 games over Phillies.
Pitching matchups: Game 1 - Pedro (5-0) vs Brett (2-1)
Game 2 - Glavine (4-2) vs Lidle (3-3)
Game 3 - Trachsel (2-2) vs Floyd (3-2)

Pedro Martinez is tough.
Who would have thought Phils treat him rough?
Chase Utley hit two,
Ryan Howard and Leiby came through,
For Brett Myers it was enough.

Philadelphia – 8, New York – 2.

With 43,000 screaming
the Phil's bats were steaming...
While Myers was streaming
Balls and strikes so demeaning
to the Mets, who they sez
put their hope on Martinez...
It's true as they say,
but not really today...
It's the start of a string
of games that can bring
much excitement and thrills...
that sends foes to the hills.
This kind of playing
will bring others to saying...
"who are these guys" and where did they come from?...
"they made our whole season
frustration and hum drum..."

If you beat Hall of Fame pitchers back to back,
it would seem there’s not much you lack,
to finally take wing - win the whole thing.
Shout it loud, let bells ring!
Charge on, team, time to attack!

September 1, 2005. Shea Stadium, New York, New York.
Philadelphia – 3, New York – 1.
