45TH CUBAN NATIONAL SERIES NEWS BY CUBANO
RESULTS [04/18/2006]
Yadel Marti pitched a two hitter working 7 innings striking out 7 Roosters. The Lions KO the Roosters stopping their winning streak at 25 consecutive games. Yuliesky Gourriel had his league leading 24 homer for the Roosters.
The Lions also known as the Blues scored 5 times of Noelvis Hernandez who is the ERA leader. His ERA rose to 2.29. The Blues reached the Cuban postseason with the victory.
Besides the Industriales Lions, the Villa Clara Orange Growers, The Santi Spiritus Roosters, Isla de la Juventud Grapefruit Growers, the current champ Santiago de Cuba Wasps and the Ciego de Avila Tigers advanced also to the playoffs.
In group D in the East, Santiago de Cuba beat Granma twice securing first place for good.
In the West, the Habana Cowboys are leading the Pinar del Rio Cigar Makers by 2.5 games for the final playoff spot.
In the East, the Granma Sorrels are leading the Las Tunas Magicians by 6.5 games for the final palyoff spot. Las Tunas is the only team that have never advanced to the playoffs.
