Japanese Baseball News: Kanemoto breaks Ripkens Record

Kanemoto breaks Ripkens record

    Tigers right fielder Tomoaki Kanemoto of the Hanshin Tigers played in his 904th consecutive game over the weekend. Kanemoto has played in every inning of every regular season game since July 21st 1999 when he played for the Hiroshima Carp. Cal Ripken sent a congratulatory message and signed bat to Kanemoto, the message was flashed on the stadium board. The message said, "Congratulations, keep playing,". The new record will be unofficial as with Sadaharu Ohs HR record as neither were set or played in the majors.
