By Glenn Davies

Japan win it! Japan win it!  Japan brings home the inaugural World Baseball Classic championship with a10-6  win against Cuba. Japan came out swinging and scored four in the top of the first on two bases loaded walks by Ormari Romero and a 2-run single by Toshiaki Imae. Cuba responded in the bottom of the inning with an Eduardo Paret homer to make it 4-1.Ichiro doubled in the fifth and was knocked in by Tamura later in the inning making it 5-1. Ogasawara's sacrifice later in the inning made it 6-1 and things looked rather grim for Cuba. However, Cuba rallied in the bottom of the 6th with two runs making a game of it at 6-3...then in the eight reliever Soichi Fujita gave up a 2-run homer to Frederich Cepeda making it 6-5. Otsuka came in and got Japan out of the inning. Japan took control again in the ninth by again getting runners on and pressuring the Cuba infield. Ichiro drove in a run and Fukudome pinch-hit a single to score 2 more for Japan, then another Ogasawara sacrifice to make it 10-5.Otsuka came back on for the ninth and gave
up one more run before striking out Gourriel for the win.
