People's Republic of China: 2005 season results, by Gene Newman
As the Peoples Republic of China ramps up its efforts to field as many competitive teams as possible when they host the Beijing Olympics, baseball is one of the sports receiving new interest and support. To increase competitiveness and fan interest, two new teams were added to the Chinese Baseball League for the 2005 season, bringing the total to six.
The final team standings were as follows, as Beijing won its third consecutive championship out of four seasons played; as might be expected, the fifth and sixth place teams were the two newcomers to the league:
Beijing 22-7

Guangdong 19-11
Shanghai 16-13
Sichuan 8-22
Hopestars 4-26
Postseason, the first place Beijing team won the best-of-three series against second place Tianjin two games to one, by scores of 8-3 and 4-2.
