Guasave 8 Mazatlan 5

Mazatlan scored twice in the opener thanks to a bases loaded double by Daniel Fornes, who brought home Edgar Gonzalez and Pedro Castellano

With Guasave down 0-2 , they rallied 5 runs in the 3rd when Mario Valdez singled, followed by a double by Dave Doster, Luis Borges singled one run in, Demond Smith doubled home the game tying run , Osvaldo Morejon doubled two more in , and Kevin Barker sac flied the 5th run of the inning to take a 5-2 lead

Scored two more in the 7th when Kevin Barker doubled home Osvaldo Morejon and Armando Rios

Venados get closer when Miguel Ojeda whacked a 3 runs homer in the 8th inning off Ignacio Flores who silenced the attendance for a moment

Losing hurler Walter Silva pitched 5.1 innings allowing 7 hits and 6 runs, Leo Muñoz
Sixto Baez, Jose Luis Garcia and Jose Cobos come in relief allowing the remaining Guasave runs

For Cottoneers, winner Rudy Gonzalez worked over 6.2 innings allowing 5 hits and 2 runs, relievers Ignacio Flores , Julio Jimenez and finally Guasave closer Dale Thayer come in to zip things up

Edgar Gonzalez went 3-5 for Venados

Next Tuesday in Mazatlan the 3rd game of the series where Francisco Campos will face off Spike Lundberg

NOTES:

• Venados 2B , Miguel Flores was kept out of the line up in a attempt to recover him from last night hit by pitcher Luis Carlos Rivera, hometown Domingo Castro replaced him in the line up

• Carlos Paz a Cuban coach with Guasave , managed Mazatlan to the 1987 title

• Sinaloa State provided most of the players to this year Mex Pac season, however no state natives are in any of the two finalist starting line ups

• Light hitting Luis Borges had only 3 HR in more than 1500 AB between two mexican leagues, before hitting his shot last night off Pablo Ortega
