GREAT AMERICAN LOSS

Just when it looked like we might do it
Madson knew it was wrong when he threw it.
Wasted homers by Abreu, Thome, and Bell,
Once again headed for baseball Hell.
Philly writers all shouting “We knew it!”

Tuesday, September 14, 2004. The Great American Ballpark, Cincinnati, Ohio.
Cincinnati – 7, Philadelphia – 6.

Bowa says it was the right pitch
Which put the Fightin's in the ditch...
Got it up instead of down
And Lopez took it out of town...

Playoffs hope has gotten slimer
Eternal hope is just a dream
Wild card from dim to dimmer
Kinda makes you wanna scream

That one run games and bone head plays
Have wasted homers and pitching aces
That sent the home team on their way
And taken the smiles from a lot of faces...
