SOAKED

I don’t think it’s asking too much
For Lieberthal and Thome to hit in the clutch.
We fell to the Mets
Losing all bets
We popped up we struck out and such.

Monday May 31, 2004 Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia (3 hr 47 min rain delays)
New York – 5 Philadelphia – 3

MAY 2004.

It was good but it could have been better, 17-11. The Phillies lost some games they should have won (GLOPMOC). They picked up two games on Florida. Polanco missed most of the month with a pulled quadriceps muscle. Chase Utley replaced him and was terrific. Billy Wagner missed the last three weeks with a pulled groin muscle. Tim Worrell saved seven in Wagner’s place. Roberto Hernandez missed 14 days with a pulled calf muscle and was terrible when he came back. Jim Thome is playing with sore hands – strained ligaments in left thumb and forefinger, broken middle finger right hand in spring training still sore. Bowa refuses to make excuses and continues to mishandle the pitching. The team set a club record for homeruns in May – 29. Back-to-back-to-back (Abreu-Thome-Burrell) twice.

Standing of the NL East Clubs June 1, 2004

Florida 30-21
Philadelphia 27-22
Atlanta 25-25
New York 24-26
Montreal 16-34
