Speculation Shortstop May be Headed to Dodgers
According to Sankei Sports, Seibu Lions all star shortstop Kazuo Matsui has named Arn Tellem as his agent. They are quoting "unnamed MLB sources."
There is some speculation in the Japanese press that this means he wants to play with the Dodgers since Tellem reportedly has a great relationship with Dodgers GM Dan Evans. Moreover, over the last few days, reports out of Japan emphasized that the PL Gakuen grad has "a strong affinity for the West Coast [of the U.S.]."
The New York Yankees, of course, are familiar with Tellem, who represents both Jason Giambi and Hideki Matsui among others, but Little Matsui has firmly stated that he wants to play short in the majors while the Yankees plan to use him at second.
There was a blurb in the NY Post Saturday about Matsui mulling going with Tellem, but now Sankei is using the word "decided" in its report.
