Taiwan Baseball News: Five-Run Ninth Breaks Game Wide Open

China Trust Whales 7 Makoto Gida 0
The China Trust Whales scored five runs in the top half of the ninth inning to rout the Makoto Gida 7-0 last night before just 750 fans at Shingcung Stadium.
Last night's affair was initially close with Whales starter Kuo-lee Chien-fu and Gida starter Cheng-ching Chen matching each other pitch-for-pitch. Chen (2-2-1) gave up one run, which was earned, on five hits and one walk in five innings but Chi-chia Yang surrendered five in the ninth to erase hopes of a Gida comeback. Chien-fu (7-5-1) pitched six innings of three-hit ball for the victory and was named the Game's MVP for being the difference in the outcome.
Hitters for both teams were silent for most of the night but the Whales batters came through in the ninth. Second baseman Yueh-liang Lin finished 2-for-4 with a walk and one run scored while catcher Chin-shou Shin also did the same without the base-on-ball. Third baseman Chien-wei Chen had a 3-for-4 performance to go along with one walk, two doubles, two RBIs and one run plated.
