Taiwan Baseball News: Yokota Shines In Rout; Relievers Make A Game of It
By Andrew Wong
Sinon Bulls 1 Brother Elephants 11
Hisanori Yokota threw seven solid innings and left fielder Chin Jeh Lee hit his third home run of the 2003 Chinese Professional Baseball League season as the Brother Elephants shutdown the Sinon Bulls 11-1 in front of 9,302 onlookers at Shingchu Stadium last night.
For his efforts, Yokota (12-2-0) was named the Game's MVP. The Japanese pitcher gave up just the one earned run on one hit and three walks in seven frames. He struck out nine batters.
The Elephants offense came through in a big way too as leadoff man Rue-chang Chen went 1-for-3 with two walks, three runs scored and one RBI to set the table. Right fielder Cheng-ming Pang had three walks and two runs scored as he went hitless in one official at-bat while first baseman Fong-an Tsai finished the evening 3-for-4 with two runs plated and three driven in. Last night's designated hitter, Hua-shan Chen, had a 2-for-3 performance to go along with one run scored and two RBIs. Lee, of course, came through with the biggest performance as he went 2-for-4 with one run scored and three RBIs on his third dinger of the year.
Dominican native Osvaldo Martinez (9-9-0) struggled for the Bulls in his start as he surrendered nine runs, seven of them earned, on seven hits and five walks in just 3 2/3 innings of work. Left-hander Chi-shian Ho then relieved him and did no better as he gave up two runs, both earned, on three hits in 4 1/3 innings. Ho, however, fanned six batters and walked none.

The game was tied 1-1 early on as Lions starter Jose Parra and Gida starter Chi-chia Yang matched each other pitch-for-pitch. Both of them would end up with no-decisions as the relievers decided the game.
Leos closer Jung-yang Tsao picked up his second win to improve to 2-2-2 as he pitched two shutout innings. Jesus Pena (2-1-0) took the loss as he surrendered one earned run on three hits and one walk in four frames of work.
