Taiwan Baseball News: Proud Day For Chinese Baseball
By Andrew Wong
Friday was certainly a proud day for Chinese baseball.
Chin-hui Tsao became the first Taiwanese pitcher to pitch in the big leagues as the Colorado Rockies starter won in his Major League debut by a score of 7-3 over the Milwaukee Brewers.
Tsao surrendered three earned runs on eight hits in 6 1/3 innings. He was also 0-for-2 at the plate.
He skipped the Rockies' Triple-A system and went directly to the Major Leagues from Double-A because of his exceptional control (126 strikeouts to 26 walks).
At the end of the night, fans gave him a standing ovation and the Taiwanese crowd waved the country's red-and-blue flag with the white sun. Tsao, 22, then removed his cap and waved it, not only to those in attendance but millions that watched the game on Taiwanese television.
