Taiwan Baseball News: Hurst Leaves Game Early; Sugarcane Comes Through

Brother Elephants 6 Sinon Bulls 2
The Brother Elephants seem to have found another top starter in Chun-yi Wu as he went five scoreless innings in relief of American native Jonathan Hurst to beat the Sinon Bulls 6-2 last night before 10,500 fans.
Hurst left the game after just one inning, surrendering one earned run, due to some discomfort and Wu (6-1-0) came in to shutdown the Bulls for five innings on four hits. He was named the Game's MVP.
The Elephants capitalized on three errors by the Bulls as they scored four runs, two of them earned, off Dominican starter Osvaldo Martinez (9-7-0). Elephants short stop Rue-chang Chen went 2-for-2 with three walks, a triple and one run scored while right fielder Cheng-ming Pang finished the evening 2-for-4 with a walk, a double and two runs plated. Third baseman Hua-shan Chan finished at 1-for-4 with a double, one run scored and two RBIs and designated hitter Chin-yong Wang went 2-for-5 with a run batted in.
For the Bulls, first baseman Shu-mu Chueh went 1-for-2 with a walk, a double and one RBI while slugger Tai-shan Chang went 1-for-3 with a walk and a RBI. Short stop Jau-han Chung had a 3-for-4 performance batting behind Chang while left fielder Song-yong Luo finished 2-for-4.

The man they call "Sugarcane" came through as the President Lions doubled the Makoto Gida by a score of 4-2 last night in front of 2,078 fans.
Center fielder Kang-ling Huang went 3-for-5 with a double, one run scored and one RBI in the leadoff spot as he was named the Game's MVP. Huang's heroics managed to spark his team as Japanese second baseman Hiroaki Yoshimi went 2-for-4 with a run batted in.
These runs helped Lions starter John Burgos (4-3-0), who gave up two runs, one of them earned, on six hits and two walks in eight solid innings of work. Burgos also struck out seven batters. Jung-yang Tsao pitched one shutout inning to record his 15th save of the 2003 Chinese Professional Baseball League season.
Meanwhile, the Gida received a 2-for-3 performance from designated hitter Bao-hong Chen, who finished with a run plated. Cuban second baseman Osmani Estrada went 1-for-4.
