Taiwan Baseball News: Whales Try To Pick Up Pace After Slow Start

China Trust Whales 8 First Securities Agan 4
The First Securities Agan are right where everybody expected they would be to begin the Chinese Professional Baseball League's second half. The Agan were doubled 8-4 by the China Trust Whales last night before 1,074 fans at Kaoshung Stadium. As long as the CPBL can avoid Makoto Gida-Agan matches, the people will come.
The Agan showed promise as they scored three quick runs off Whales starter Cheng-hsun Hsieh (5-4-1) in the bottom half of the first inning but then Hsieh settled down and the Whales started to pick up the pace. They scored four runs in the second frame, one in the third and three in the fifth as second baseman Yueh-liang Lin went 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Designated hitter Han-chou Tseng finished the evening 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Hsieh gave up those three runs, all earned, on seven hits in
six frames. He walked three and struck out five batters. Chao-jee Sooh gave up one earned run on four hits in three innings to pick up his first save of the year.
Agan starter Rue-hao Liang (5-7-0) struggled as he surrendered eight runs, six of them earned, on ten hits in 4 2/3 innings of work. The relievers managed to shutdown the Whales hitters the rest of the way but the damage had already been done.
Right fielder Jun-hsiung Lu and second baseman Sen-yi Chow each went 2-for-4 with a walk for the Agan but Chow had two runs plated. First baseman Chung-wei Pang finished at 2-for-4 with a run scored and another driven in.
After starting the second half 1-6-1, the Whales are 4-7-1 and will play the Agan tonight at Kaoshung Stadium (6:35 p.m., Taiwan time).
