First Securities Agan 1 Brother Elephants 2

The First Securities Agan came close but still wound up losing, 2-1, to the Brother Elephants last night before 2,276 fans at Shingcung Stadium.

Ching-li Wang went the distance for the 22-20-1 Elephants, giving up one earned run on just three hits. Wang walked one and struck out eight en route to improving to 1-3-0. He ended up throwing 100 pitches, 72 of them for strikes.

All of the scoring was done early as the starters started to settle in. The 8-34-2 Agan struck first with one run in the first inning off Wang before the Elephants got two back in the bottom half of the second.

For the Elephants, right fielder Cheng-ming Pang went 1-for-2 with two walks while center fielder Chih-yuen Chen had a walk and came around to score. Second baseman Shun-shian Fong finished the evening 1-for-2 with one base on ball.

Korean native Gyoung Yun Hee picked up his first loss in his first game for the Agan as he went seven solid innings. He gave up two runs, one of which were earned, on five hits. Hee walked four and struck out four as he dropped to 0-1-0.

CPBL NOTES: China Trust Whales ace Hiroaki Nakayama was named the Defensive Player of the Month for the month of May. The Japanese native was 3-0-0 in four starts with a 1.09 ERA. Nakayama walked four and struck out 20 in 33 innings. For the Offensive Player of the Month, Sinon Bulls third baseman Tai-shan Chang got the notch. In 15 games, Chang had a .295 batting average (18-for-61 in 72 plate appearances). He hit five homeruns and had 15 RBIs with 11 walks.
