Taiwan Baseball News: Yokota Does In Gida While Tsai Destroys Agan

The Brother Elephants scored runs to start the first four innings of last night's game with the Makoto Gida en route to a 8-6 win before 4,031 fans at Shingcung Stadium.

American native Ken Henthorne started for the 14-24-1 Gida and proceeded to surrender seven runs, four of them earned, on nine hits in four innings of work. He walked and struck out one batter as he fell to 0-3-0. Reliver Rho-hiu Feng finished the game, giving up one earned run, on four hits in four innings.

Short stop Rue-chang Chen went 3-for-5 with two RBIs for the 18-18-1 Elephants, who have finally reached .500. Center fielder Chih-yuen Chen finished the evening 2-for-5 with two runs scored and had one RBI while designated hitter Chin Jeh Lee went 1-for-2 with one run plated and another driven in. Chih-wei Hsu had a hit in one pinch-hit at-bat for Lee.

The Gida scored two runs each in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings as third baseman Tsung-kwei Chang hit a two-run home run, his second en route to a 1-for-4 performance.

Japanese native Hisanori Yokota scattered five hits and two runs, both earned, in six innings to pick up the win to improve to 5-2-0. He walked one and struck out ten as he was named the Game's MVP. Closer Ruen-win Hsiao picked up his third save of the 2003 Chinese Professional Baseball League season with 1 1/3 scoreless innings.

Sinon Bulls 5 First Securities Agan 0

Chung-nan Tsai shutdown the First Securities Agan for nine innings as the Sinon Bulls blanked the Agan 5-0 last night before 1,014 fans at Kaoshung Stadium.

Tsai scattered only four hits, walked one and struck out eight batters to improve to 7-2-0. He threw 114 pitches, 74 of which were for strikes as he was named the Game MVP.

Meanwhile, Dominican native Gabriel Ozura was victimized for four runs, three of them earned thanks to three Agan errors. Ozura fell to 0-2-0 after 4 2/3 innings. Reliever Wen-hsiung Hsu came in and surrendered one run, which was unearned. He gave up three hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Third baseman Tai-shan Chang went 3-for-4 with one run scored and two RBIs for the 27-10-1 Bulls.

The Bulls will play the Agan tonight at Kaoshung Stadium (6:35 p.m. Taiwan time).
