President Lions 0 Makoto Gida 3
Right hander Chi-chia Yang went all the way as the Makoto Gida blanked the President Lions 3-0 last night in front of only 433 fans at Shingcung Stadium. Yang scattered eight hits while striking out five and walking three in nine shutout innings en route to the victory. He improved to 3-4-0 and was named the Game's MVP.
Gida first baseman Jia-hsian Hsieh as he launched a two-run homer in the bottom half of the sixth inning to break open a 0-0 game and give the Gida the 2-0 lead they would never relinquish. It was his seventh of the 2003 Chinese Professional Baseball League season as he finished the evening 2-for-4, scoring once and driving in two runs. Hsieh's other hit was a double.
The Leos mustered eight hits but could not solve Yang all night along as the Gida starter threw 137 pitches, 79 of them for strikes.
With the loss in last night's makeup game (for a postponed April 18 game), the Lions fell to 21-14-1 and fell four games back of the league-leading Sinon Bulls, who routed the First Securities Agan 11-4 last night. The Gida, meanwhile, improved to a measly 13-22-1.
The Gida will play the Brother Elephants tonight at Shingchu Stadium (6:35 p.m. Taiwan time) while the Lions will begin their series with the China Trust Whales at Shingcung Stadium (also at 6:35 p.m. Taiwan time).

Sinon Bulls 11 First Securities Agan 4
The Sinon Bulls pounced on First Securities Agan ace Rue-hao Liang for four runs, two of which were earned, en route to a 11-4 thrashing at Kaoshung Stadium before 823 fans. Why the low crowd? Probably because of the SARS epidemic in Taiwan...
Liang was pulled after only 2/3 innings of work as he picked up the loss.
Meanwhile, the Bulls received a solid performance from Chi-shian Ho, who gave up one run, which was earned, on four hits in six innings. Ho walked one, struck out eight and threw 91 pitches, 60 of them for strikes. Ren-Ming Yang then relieved Ho and proceeded to give up three earned runs on two hits. He pitched faced four batters and did not record an out before being pulled.
