Taiwan Baseball News: Juan Melo Has First Big Game

First Securities Agan 6 China Trust Whales 7
Two Dominican Republic natives went at it last night and Juan Melo ended up one top as the third baseman hit his first home run of the 2003 Chinese Professional Baseball League season off fellow Dominican native Javier Samboy of the First Securities Agan as the China Trust Whales won 7-6 last night in front of 1,588 fans at Jayi Stadium.
Melo connected with a two-run bomb in the first inning as he finished the evening 2-for-4 with one run scored and three RBIs. He was named the Game's MVP.
It was 2-0 Whales when the Agan came back with five runs in the top half of the second inning to chase Whales starter Chien-san Kao, who gave up seven hits and five earned runs in only 1 2/3 innings of work. Samboy pitched scattered four hits and four runs, three of them earned, as he was unable to finish the third inning. The Agan were up 6-5 before reliever Wen-hsiung Hsu came in in the bottom of the eighth and proceeded to give up two runs, both earned, on four hits through 2 1/3 innings. Hsu fell to 2-8-0.
Dominican native Maximo Rosa pitched one scoreless inning, scattering one hit, as he picked up his first save of the season. Agan second baseman Manuel Kranlogs went 1-for-4 with one run plated and one run driven in. The 21-12-3 Whales got a 1-for-3 performance from second baseman Yueh-liang Lin who also scored one run and had two RBIs.
