Taiwan Baseball News: Whales' Rise Slowed - Just A Little....

China Trust Whales 3 Sinon Bulls 6
The China Trust Whales began last week in third-place. Behind an offense that has cranked out 32 runs and a pitching staff that has yielded only 14 runs in the last four games preceding this one, the Whales proceeded to sweep the struggling Makoto Gida in a four-game series to take sole control of the second-place spot in the league standings. The last time the Whales suffered defeat was, well, last night as the Sinon Bulls doubled the Whales 6-3 at Shingchu Stadium before 2,145 fans.
Wen-pin Hsu came on in relief of Bulls starter Chi-shian Ho, who gave up three runs, all earned, in 6 1/3 innings, and shutout Whales hitters through 1 2/3 innings to pick up the win. Hsu gave up one hit and improved to 2-1-0. Ramon Morel threw a scoreless ninth for his ninth save of the 2003 Chinese Professional Baseball League season.
Whales pitchers only gave up seven hits and one earned run, but those five unearned runs still counted. Bulls team captain and second baseman Chang-yi Huang led the hitting barrage with a 1-for-3, two runs, one RBI, performance and catcher Chun-chang Yeh went 1-for-3.
For the 18-11-2 Whales, center fielder Song-hsuen Yang went 2-for-4 while third baseman Chien-wei Chen finished the night 1-for-3 with one run scored.
The Whales and Bulls will play again tonight at 6:35 p.m. (Taiwan time) at Shingcung Stadium this time before having a day off after which they will finish up their four-game series.
