Taiwan Baseball News: Bulls Lead Lions By One After Slugfest Win
By Andrew Wong
Sinon Bulls 7 President Lions 6
It was a slugfest last night at Shingchu Stadium that resulted in two quality pitchers having their ERA balloon. Sinon Bulls' starter Chung-nan Tsai gave up four runs, all earned, in six innings but came away with the win as his team outslugged the President Lions 7-6 before 3,179 fans. Tsai improved to 4-2-0.
Meanwhile, American native Joe Davenport started for the Lions (19-10-0) and was tagged with seven runs, five of which were earned, in 6 2/3 innings of pitching. Davenport picked up his first loss of the 2003 Chinese Professional Baseball League season to drop to 7-1-0. Bulls' second baseman Chang-yi Huang was able to go 2-for-3 against Leos' pitching with three runs scored while left fielder Song-yong Luo finished the night 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Bulls' Osvaldo Martinez picked up his first save of the season with 1 1/3 innings of shutout baseball in relief of Wen-pin Hsu, who gave up two runs, both earned, in 1 2/3 innings. The Dominican native Martinez is usually a starter.
For the Lions, center fielder Kang-ling Huang went 1-for-5 but scored two runs while left/right fielder Lien-hung Chen finished 2-for-4.
With the win, the Bulls moved to 19-8-0 and are now one game ahead of the Lions.
